What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells — usually porcelain or composite resin — bonded to the front of your teeth. They are designed to:

  • Cover discoloured or stained teeth
  • Fix chipped or cracked teeth
  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Correct mildly crooked teeth
  • Improve tooth shape and symmetry

CHOOSING A MATERIAL

Types of Veneers: Porcelain vs. Composite

Porcelain veneers

Highly durable, stain-resistant and natural-looking. Layered ceramic reflects light like enamel, which is why porcelain is our first choice for full smile makeovers.

Lifespan
10–15 years
Typical fee
S$1,800 – S$2,500 per tooth
  • Best for full smile design
  • Resists coffee, tea and wine stains
  • Lab-crafted

Composite veneers

More affordable and often completed in a single visit. Ideal for minor cosmetic fixes, and easily repaired or reshaped chairside if needed.

Lifespan
5–7 years
Typical fee
S$550 – S$1,200 per tooth
  • Best for one or two teeth
  • Single-visit option
  • Repairable chairside

SUITABILITY

Are Veneers Right for You?

Ideal candidates for veneers have:

  • Minor cosmetic concerns — discolouration, gaps, chips
  • Good oral hygiene habits

If you have severe tooth decay, gum disease, or grinding habits, alternative treatments like dental crowns or orthodontics may be recommended.

Veneers: common questions answered

Modern veneers are conservative. Depending on the case we remove between nothing at all and roughly half a millimetre of enamel — about the thickness of a fingernail — so the veneer sits flush with the neighbouring teeth. We always show you a digital or wax-up preview before any preparation begins.

Porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years and often longer; composite veneers usually last 5–7 years before they need refinishing or replacement. Longevity depends mostly on your bite, grinding habits and home care.

No. We design veneers around your facial proportions, lip line and skin tone, then match translucency and surface texture to your existing teeth. You can preview and adjust the shape in a trial smile before the final veneers are made.

Preparation is done under local anaesthetic and most patients feel nothing at all. Mild temperature sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and settles quickly.

Veneers do not respond to whitening gels, so we whiten your natural teeth first and then match the veneers to the final shade. If you whiten years later, the veneers will keep their original colour.

Grinding is not an automatic disqualifier, but it must be managed first. We may recommend a nightguard, splint therapy or a bite assessment before veneers so that your investment is protected.

Composite veneers can usually be repaired chairside. A chipped porcelain veneer is normally replaced individually — the surrounding teeth are unaffected, and the new veneer is shade-matched to the rest of your smile.

Veneers address the front surface of otherwise healthy teeth. Heavily filled or root-treated teeth are usually better served by crowns, and significant crowding or bite problems are best corrected with aligners or braces first — sometimes with a few veneers afterwards for the finishing touch.

Treat them like natural teeth: brush twice daily with a non-abrasive paste, floss, avoid opening packaging with your teeth, and keep to six-monthly reviews so we can polish the margins and check your bite.
